Because coffee is always a welcome beverage at parties, dinners, receptions, and luncheons, a large coffee dispenser is essential. The single serve coffee Keurig is fabulous, but not the most practical way to serve and make coffee at large gathering. Our family is so large, my grandmother even used a coffee dispensing urn every year at Christmas. When my grandmother died, her large coffee dispensing urn was passed down to me since I now host our Christmas dinners. Her influence is clearly still with us.
Even though I have the family coffee dispenser, I need a second coffee dispensing urn for decaffeinated coffee. We all drink coffee throughout the day and evening, but many of us switch to decaf after lunch. Some of our family members enjoy flavored coffee. I normally let them use the Keurig for their individual preferred flavors. However, I can easily imagine another coffee dispenser might be needed in a more formal setting if flavored coffees are served.
The Hamilton Beach Coffee Dispensing Urn
Hamilton Beach 45 Cup Coffee Urn and Hot Beverage Dispenser, Silver (40515R),This is a inexpensive, yet fabulous coffee brewer and dispenser. Perfect for large dinners and gatherings. This unit will not keep the coffee warm. Therefore, I would recommend it for a buffet style setting where multiple guests fill their cups all at the same time and then sit down to eat.
You will need to brew a second pot for subsequent servings. Still, the price cannot be beat, especially if you infrequently use it.
The description states 45 cup. However, don’t expect it to truly serve 45 guests. Depending on the size of the party coffee cups, it will most likely serve 15 – 20 guests.
Recommended Coffee Dispenser Brewer for Frequent Use
Hamilton Beach 40540 Brew Station 40-Cup Coffee Urn, SilverThis coffee brewer & dispenser is preferred because it does make closer to the stated 40 cups of coffee. Plus, it will keep the brewed coffee hot even after the brewing is complete.
Please note, this coffee dispenser is activated by pressure and not with the lever like the one shown above. I would not recommend using paper or Styrofoam cups as they will flex.
It takes approximately 30 minutes to percolate a full dispenser. Be sure you allow enough time for brewing before expected serving time. The ready light will indicate when the coffee is ready to serve.
Please keep in mind, any of these brewer dispensers will be hot on the outside. Life only by handles. Moving the coffee brewer when is it hot, is not recommended.
Commercial Grade Coffee Dispenser Brewer
If you are planning to use your coffee dispenser frequently for club meetings, business meetings, catering, or weekly services, I would highly recommend you bypass the less expensive units and opt for the commercial grade. These brewer dispensers cost more, but they should be more reliable, as well as last longer.
Keep in mind, any of these coffee dispensers have components that break if they are abused, shaken hard, dropped, or mistreated.
