Contigo travel mugs are a slice of heaven for coffee lovers like me! Believe me, I have tried a dozen different styles and brands and the Contigo travel mugs win, hands down.
Has this happened to you: My kids, bless their hearts, bought me a travel mug one Christmas. Apparently there was much bickering over choosing which one I would like. My daughter wanted me to have the one that looks like a vintage Coca-Cola glass and my son wanted me to have the giant economy sized (think big gulp) one. My daughter prevailed, (though it does take at least a pot until I feel human in the morning. My son knows his mama!)
Anyway, I ended up with the Coca-Cola one. I have always collected Coke things so I thought it was neat. The container portion is made of steel with a red plastic liner. The lid was also plastic and a bit flimsy. See where I am going?
Shortly after I started using it everyday, the lid cracked and broke.There went my travel mug. So, I decided to pick out my own travel mug this time and I had a few requirements of it.

I knew what I needed from a new travel mug — even made a list! Here it is:
- Must fit in cup holders in both cars
- Must keep coffee hot for at least an hour
- Must be spill proof (I am a klutz)
- Must be stylish (it’s a girl thing, usually)
- Must be dishwasher safe
- Must be BPA free
One of my major reasons and first on the list: We have 2 cars with 2 different style cup holders. Neither one holds a travel mug with a handle. You sorta have to jerry-rig it to get it to stay. And, of course, that means there is a distinct possibility of spills. I didn’t want that.
I finished my list and started my search. It ended when I found the Contigo travel mugs. I love, love, love them! For all the reasons mentioned above as well as a few more:
Their autoseal technology means it’s 100% leak proof/spill proof. I need that, badly. I push to button to drink and when I let go, it seals again. Now I don’t have to worry about knocking it over and losing my coffee or soaking my clothes.
These Contigo travel mugs are double wall, vacuum insulated. That means the 20 ounce size I have will keep my drink hot for up to six hours. So, when I get interrupted and don’t get back to my coffee for an hour or more, it’s still hot and ready. It can also be filled with a cold drink which will stay cold for up to 18 hours!
This style of Contigo travel mugs (West Loop) come in 16 and 20 ounce. They also come in some cool color combinations. I chose the “latte” you see above because it’s neutral. But, if you want to be noticed, you can get a bright color (see below).
