Vanilla Beans

I am often asked about purchasing vanilla beans for flavoring coffee.  This is the online brand I can recommend.  It will arrive already ground for you into powder form and has no additional additives.  It is easy to add vanilla for a dry recipe in the powder form.

If your prefer, you certainly can purchase whole vanilla beans, which are less expensive than vanilla bean powder, and ground the beans yourself.  However, let me forewarn you, this does take more time than simply purchasing it already ground.

A vanilla bean is a long pod.  You would need to dehydrate it first since you want to make ground vanilla beans.  If you do not dry it out, it will be too moist to use in this recipe.

To dehydrate the vanilla beans, bake the entire uncut pods for 1 hr. at 275°F, on a lined baking sheet (lined with Baking Parchment Paper).

After it is dried & completely cool, cut off the ends of the pod.  Then cut it into pieces (approx. 6 pieces).

To ground the pieces, you can use a spice grinder, your coffee grinder or a pestle & mortar set.

Give the Koffee Kingdom Christmas Blend Coffee Gift

Koffee Kingdom Christmas Blend Coffee RecipeOnce you have made the recipe, it is extremely easy to divide it between jars and give as gifts.  You will want to select air tight containers that have a vacuum seal or gasket to keep the coffee as fresh as possible.  I always prefer glass or ceramic containers when storing coffee.

You could even make a unique and special coffee gift basket set for that coffee lover in your life by adding holiday coffee mugs, personalized specialty coffee mugs, a coffee scoop and/or a k cup reusable filter for the coffee enthusiast who owns a Keurig Coffee Maker.

Pumpkin Pie Spice

I mentioned the Pumpkin Pie Spice that you could use as a substitute for the spices if you so desire.  Pumpkin Pie Spice is a single container of blended spices that includes cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger, and allspice.   It can often be used as a substitute for that combination of spices and reduce the amount of purchased spice jars required if you don’t already have the spices on hand.
